Intern Trainee Programs

International Experience Canada

Work, travel, and gain real Canadian experience through a government-approved youth mobility program.

Work, travel, and grow through real Canadian experience

International Experience Canada (IEC) gives many young people the chance to explore Canada. They are able to live, work, and explore Canada for a limited time. This program is run by the Canadian government and supports youth from partner countries aged 18 to 35. It is designed to help you improve your skills. With this, you can gain practical skills, discover new places, and build international confidence.

IEC is split into three categories, each built for a different type of journey. It provides you with a flexible open work permit. This helps you to have a simple entry route to the country and gain valuable experience. This program has become one of the most popular ways for young professionals and students to gain Canadian experience.

Program Overview

IEC offers a temporary stay in Canada with the freedom to work for almost any employer. The program does not require a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). This makes things easier and faster for participants. Knowing it, they can claim the chance to begin their adventure.

The length of stay depends on your home country and the category you apply under. But many participants can remain in Canada for up to two years.

Who Is Eligible to Apply

You may be eligible for IEC if:

  • You are aged 18 to 35 (the exact range depends on the partner country).
  • You are a citizen of a country that has an agreement with Canada.
  • You want to work, travel, or complete an internship in Canada.
  • You meet the required health, insurance, and document conditions.

IEC also supports Canadian youth who wish to utilise it. You can travel and work abroad in over 35 countries. This helps you build a two-way cultural exchange.

Program Categories

IEC includes three unique paths to proceed further. You can select from each offering its own way to experience Canada:

1. Working Holiday

If you want freedom to explore, this is the simplest route. It comes with an open work permit, letting you work for almost any employer in any part of Canada. It helps support your stay while you travel.

2. Young Professionals

You can utilise it if you are an applicant who already has a job offer from a Canadian employer. It allows them to gain career-related experience in the field. This also helps to build your CV for the future. And you can also learn workplace skills inside a real Canadian setting.

3. International Co-op (Internship)

This route is for students who need to complete an internship as part of their studies. It lets you carry out your placement in Canada. And to be worry-free, you will be under a structured and supervised training plan.

Why IEC Matters

IEC helps you:

Build work experience that employers trust

Improve English or French language skills

Explore Canada’s cities, culture, and landscapes

Gain confidence working in a new environment

Strengthen your long-term career options

Many participants use their time in Canada to shape their future. The experience gained under IEC can later support an Express Entry application. This is also one of the pathways to Canadian permanent residency.
